Dressed in Christmas pajamas in April,
Trying to fill some cracks inside my heart with ice cream,
Not thinking twice about taking another spoon,
Eating it it’s like involuntary breathing.
Today I touched your face through a pixelated screen,
I wished I could have intertwined my hand with yours,
Because the spaces between my fingers can only be filled by yours
But quarantine had us all singing its tune,
For a while…..
We can’t go to the beach, the woods….wherever….
We can’t be together!
But just because the scenery fell out,
It doesn’t mean it’s not a good play!
I remember the great fights we had,
And how I or you would say I’m sorry,
Because none of us was looking for an absolute victory.
I remember the feel of your muscles under the skin,
And how I tried to adjust my eyes to the darkness
But there was nothing to see,
I could only feel a longing that traveled through my body,
Spreading its wings like a butterfly.
Ice cream in the kitchen……
Whoever said “in vino veritas”
They should have also considered the ice cream
“In ice cream veritas”!
I’m not looking at Game of Thrones on the tv in front of me,
Or out the kitchen window at all the clouds that I’d like to fly through,
The sugar has me suspended in a life-like fantasy.
The virus that has thrown a wrench in the real world
Have now endowed me with rose-colored glasses.
I see you more than before,
I see us more than before….
I see our love and it’s beautiful.
