A poem that I have written had been published by Spillwords Press. Thank you for publishing my work!

The moon was riding in a cloudy heaven,
Nature was not still and neither was he.
He was just a little boy, by the window,
Listening to the spirits of the trees.

The tales of the forest
Whispered unwritten wisdom,
About the first men and women that emerged from the caves
To fan the flames of civilization,
About a wanderers realm
Where even broken-winged birds can fly…..
About acorns that sprouted into flowers,
About a little orphan child that asked a tall tree
To lift up his paper gold wishes
Up to the sky, to his parents.

And then he saw her,

The modern condition of being human

By Andrada Costoiu

I opened my computer this morning, as I do every morning, and I read the news. In California, where I live, several news outlets reported on our struggle against coronavirus.

Great! We’re fighting, but how are we fighting?

The news, which mirror the national news, keep talking about all the negative things that this crisis has brought up. But what makes it striking, is that none of these problems are new and it is bothersome to see that over and over again we go through the same scenarios.

Here are few subjects:

  1. Costs are up. There will be financial cuts. Brace yourselves.
  2. Unemployment. Brace yourselves. Ok, we are bracing but what happened with the 2 trillion and now another 2.3 trillion injected in the economy?
  3. Health system inadequacy. No ventilators. Lack of coordination between state and federal, or at least that’s what we keep hearing from the media.

You can add more to the list of bad situations that we all are facing. And I am not speaking only for California or for the US, but this is what is happening in the entire world.

Why do we hear these negative things over and over again? Are we living in a hopeless world? What needs to be changed in the current situation to be better?

As a regular person, are you required to do well on your job? Yes. If you do not perform well what does it happen? You need to do better or you’re fired. Or you’re just fired.

What happens in our societies is a paradox.

Politics  fail. The ones in power keep going.
People complain. The problems keep perpetuating.
Media keeps fueling us with their agendas. We listen or we stop listening. They keep going.

These failures are not only characteristic for the coronavirus world crisis. They have become a mode of life.

I am not and I do not want to be a financial analyst. I can be a political analyst as I have an education that stands for it. But in this situation, I do not want to be a political analyst either.

I am a human. Just like you, just like all of us.  I consider myself equal with the poor and equal with the rich. We all live on this planet.

I want us all to live in a society where we would wake up in the morning and say: this is a great day, I am going to do my job, do it well and then I will enjoy myself. And while we are doing this day by day, I want us to feel safe, I want us to feel cared for. I don’t want us to feel used, betrayed or disappointed.
I want the sense of unity, and belief that the founding fathers have built this country upon. I want this for us and for the whole world.

SO:
Stop telling us: there are no ventilators. Do your job and manufacture and bring what is needed it. Fight for it and do it.
Stop telling us that we are in a terrible budget chasm. Stop telling us you are cutting money from education and other needed programs. There is money, a lot of money, both at the sate and federal level. Stop complaining. Go do your job and distribute them wisely.
Stop pointing fingers at each other. I’m tired to constantly hear that this politician didn’t do well, that the other is like this and like that. Go work as a team and if the team doesn’t work then make it work. If you were elected in an office, honor your job…..just like the teacher honors his, just like the doctor honors his….and so on.
Stop the BS!

Something needs to be done.

If you have a place in front of your house that looks like a swamp and it smells bad, what do you do? There are two options:

  1. You get your working suit on, and even if it’s exhausting you go dig trenches and work to make that place better and then plant flowers
  2. Close the windows to your house so you don’t feel the bad smell.

I rest my case!!!

Renewal is coming

by Andrada Costoiu

The world seems to have stopped,
Stopped its murmur,
Everyone stuck in their homes
Seem to be dancing on a flat line tune.

The unexpected has happened,
Your knuckles are going white from clenching down on the arms of your chair,
As you watch your world that has swallowed a virus,
Turning into a place that looks as the realm of soulless.

The empty streets in New York Square,
The empty canals in Venice,
Makes you think that every other soul on this planet
Has lost its sparkle,
That every other child stuck in the house
Has lost his rosy cheeks….

But behind each door with a broken handle,
Stands a man, or a woman, or a child,
Writing and constructing their own plot lines.
It simply depends where you focus your eyes,
To see that there is love, there is strength, there is hope.

Stuck in your chair,
Look up to the starts in the sky rather than in the darkness,
Sometimes changes are coming slow,
But when all door handles will be fixed, they will come all at once.

Renewal is coming,
Something bigger and better,
Trust your heart,
There will be more love than there will be hate,
There will be more good than there will be bad,
And there will be more light than there will be darkness.

On this tiny blue and green planet,
This quarantine has not been “that’s how the story ends”
But it is “ that’s how the story begins”….

Love at no sight

by Andrada Costoiu

No, their eyes didn’t meet from across the crowded room,
No, he didn’t see her face on Skype
Nor did she stalk his Instagram feed.
They were not like other people…..

They needed not step into the role of “mirror”,
And tell each other when they looked good or not,
Because they always looked good to each other.

They said love is blind,
But they knew that it wasn’t,
They could see into each other’s souls,
And past colors and shapes,
Their spirits within were as bright as a day.

Thoughts, desires, and longings were not always written across their faces,
But they were always written in their hearts.
She asked him: “My love, what color is love?”
He said: “Love has no color, love is a feeling,
As the feeling of you next to me.”

Her soul was touched,
She felt the sun on her face,
Smelled his perfume…
She thought that the strangest thing was
That there are seven billion people on the planet looking for love,
She hoped that they would find what she knew:
That love always happens out of sight.

Perspective

by Andrada Costoiu

Polarity is everywhere.
Light and dark, male and female, yin and yang
To understand a concept we must know its opposite brother,
Because how could we know one without knowing the other?

I know it is logic, but sometimes we give a meaning,
The sense and perspective that fits with our own world screening.

I’m puzzled today because I don’t know why,
Numerology decided that number four is a guy.
That’s right, four is considered a masculine number,
It represents strength and stability,
Discipline and loyalty.

Are they right?
I have frowned and thought that perhaps,
Their number 4’s definition is based on their own maps.
For in my world I have the 4 leafs clover,
That I have picked from fields over and over.
It represents hope, faith, love and good luck,
And you might even see a fairy if the clover’s in your pocket tucked.

So you see, anything can have different perspectives,
From different people, with different objectives.
I think we see the world through our different lenses,
What’s apparent to you, might challenge my senses.
So please to not judge what to you might not seem right,
Because nothing in this world is back or is white.

This is me, wearing a 4 leaf clover. When I was a child I was looking for fairies, nowadays I did it again with my little girl. What would this world be without magic…..

Pandemic resurrection

by Andrada Costoiu

Photo: Mick Lissone, “Heartbeat”

Hospital beds….
Doctors and nurses,
Moving faster and harder than anytime before…
I think the reminder of these days will always sting like a hornet.

For days your body quivered,
As the underground bunker opened and closed its door around you,
You were completely vulnerable,
As all the other poor souls around you,
But your parachute jerked your body back.

You’re dreaming of blue skies and white puffed clouds,
Or maybe of the ocean shore where we sat every morning,
You’re taking trips
With your eyes closed, but with the gateway of your soul open.

I feel your heart getting warmer,
Searching through the glass window,
As closest as they have let me get to you…

My eyes are crying
And my invisible hands are ripping out all the caution tape,
All the “do not enter” signs
That held us back from living the life we truly want to live.

Wake up my love,
Life is precious,
Especially the one that is given twice.

Life and how precious every moment is. Not many had life –altering experiences, but if you did, you understand best what second chances are. “Live your life to the fullest” is just a motto until you start doing it. So do it, you may never have tomorrow what you can have today. Love and live to the fullest.
