By the beach,
Where accomplished stoics,
Come to give life meaning,
I stand to listen.
The waves speak in a tongue older than sorrow,
and I hear through their foam
that it is not indifference
which oversees this world—
for even the smallest, juvenile rockfish
shivers with purpose,
and the tides themselves remember every hand
that ever reached toward them.
Breaking, my thoughts
And my ideas fly into splinters,
Only my heart is open to the confession of the waves,
As only she knows what to do.
I let go of the past,
as one releases a bird
that was never meant for a cage,
and in the letting go
I earn the power
to become
the maker of new love.
By the beach,
No longer bound by footsteps,
I stand to embrace you.
