This train stops at no station,
Not yet,
It climbs toward the evening—
a steel serpent breathing memory and promise,
its rhythm a hymn to everything that moves
and everything that waits..
It carries feelings the way smoke carries scent,
rising, dispersing,
haunting the air long after the moment is gone.
The cabin smells of old leather chairs and perfume,
a mingling of what was lived
and what is still becoming.
The lamps hum softly,
and the air tastes faintly of dust and longing.
Silent, but crowded,
the train holds life.
Across its wagons,
souls drift between reflection and dream—
a mother staring at a photograph,
two strangers pretending not to fall in love,
an old poet tracing words on the fogged windowpane.
With me, there are other lovers—
not mine.
Some godlike youth,
some older, weathered by tenderness.
Their smiles are constellations briefly seen
through the smoke of time.
Between their features,
the flicker of a promise play.
Upward a gaze, my heart is warm,
I ask the sky of us,
And wonder, if you’re waiting.
There is no answer, but I know
That you are climbing the tower of desire,
And from afar you’re watching
The train……
Zig zagging through the hills,
Clickety-clack, clickety-clack,
The love song that carries me to you,
past time, past doubt,
through every station
tthrough the night that forgets no lovers.
