A Little About My Journey
Poetry has been my refuge and my mirror—
a way to make sense of the quiet wars within,
to honor the scars and the transformations,
and to celebrate the unique light in us all.
Poetry often chose me—arriving in moments of stillness, of ache, of wonder, when language was the only way to hold what I was feeling.
For me, writing poetry means stepping into the spaces between thoughts. It’s not about decorating life with pretty words—it’s about pulling the raw, often tangled threads of our experience into something we can face, something we can touch. Poetry comes from the deepest place in us—the place that does not perform. It rises from longing, memory, love, grief, and that unspoken desire to be understood by something, or someone. Sometimes it’s a quiet conversation with ourselves. Sometimes it’s a revolt against silence.
That’s how I write. That’s what inspires my books.
I’ve often thought about how, how in school, we are taught to analyze poetry—dissect the metaphors, trace the rhyme, hunt for meaning. But what we were really doing is learning how to feel. We were learning to sit with discomfort, to stretch into new ways of seeing, to stand at the edge of another person’s heart and say, I feel this too. Poetry is not just about understanding; it’s about becoming more alive to our own humanity.
For me, poetry is less about answers and more about questions. It’s a way of standing still while everything moves, a way of carrying the sun inside me even on the darkest days. I write because it keeps me honest, because it brings me home to myself, and because sometimes, in the right line, we find the courage to live unapologetically.
